Kinshasa, October 29, 2024 (CPA) – The recent visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of National Defense to Moba, in the Tanganyika province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighted the importance of consolidating state authority and security in this strategic region of the country.

Accompanied by the provincial governor Christian Kitungwa and the Deputy Chief of General Staff in charge of operations and intelligence, General Ychaligonja Nduru Jacques, Me Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita chaired a territorial security council aimed at strengthening the presence of the state and addressing the specific security challenges of the region, in particular the issue of the “Mutono” militia.

During this meeting, local authorities, military officers and traditional leaders discussed the security issues of the Moba territory, expressing the militia’s willingness to lay down their arms. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of involving traditional leaders in the process of restoring state authority, emphasizing the inclusive and participatory approach needed to establish lasting peace in the region.

Subsequently, a visit to the infrastructure of the DRC Armed Forces in Moba made it possible to assess the operational capabilities of the troops in this key area of ​​the country. The territorial buildings and the “State Hill”, witnesses to the history and past conflicts of the region, were examined, illustrating the need for rehabilitation and strengthening of defense capacities.

Visiting the 222nd Naval Base, Me Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita noted the advanced state of disrepair of this strategic infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the presence of the Armed Forces to ensure the security of the lake borders with Tanzania and Zambia.

The visit highlighted the Congolese government’s efforts to strengthen state presence and ensure the security of populations in key regions of the country, underlining the importance of coordination between civil and military authorities to ensure stability and peace throughout the Congolese territory.
