Never before has it been possible for the inhabitants of Lemba, a central district of Kinshasa, to benefit from free HIV/AIDS testing in their own locality. But all that has changed with the commendable initiative of the Rotary Club which, in partnership with the Pax clinic, launched a three-day voluntary testing campaign.
The mayor of the commune, Jean Serge Poba, was delighted with this opportunity offered to the local population. He encouraged the inhabitants to seize this opportunity to check their health status, stressing the importance of prevention and medical consultation when necessary.
The medical director of the Lemba Health Zone, enthusiastic, stressed the importance of this campaign which not only allows for HIV/AIDS screening, but also other diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, malaria and tuberculosis. He explained that this initiative aims to help people who cannot afford to go to the hospital for regular consultations.
The Rotary Club, a social movement well known for its humanitarian commitment throughout the world, has once again demonstrated its willingness to help communities in need. By choosing to organize this screening campaign in Lemba, the Rotary Club has shown its determination to support the health and well-being of local populations.
This action marks a step forward in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the DRC and illustrates the importance of awareness and prevention in the fight against this disease. Let us hope that other initiatives of this kind will emerge in other neighborhoods of Kinshasa, in order to offer everyone easy and free access to screening and health care services.
