Security Revolution: Matete’s Local Plan for a Safe Future

The commune of Matete in Kinshasa recently unveiled a local security plan developed in collaboration with the local community. This plan aims to combat insecurity by identifying sensitive areas and proposing concrete solutions. With the involvement of the population and the support of the authorities, the objective is to eradicate insecurity in the commune. This project, supervised by the General Inspectorate of the Territorial and supported by MONUSCO, represents hope for a safer and more prosperous future for the inhabitants of Matete.

The commune of Matete, located in the heart of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, recently presented a crucial document: its local security plan. The result of collaborative work within the community of Matete, this plan aims to combat the insecurity that is plaguing the region. **“**The document we have today is the fruit of the work of the entire community of Matete. We ask all authorities in Matete to equip themselves with this document, not to keep it in a cupboard, but to use it in the exercise of their profession,**”** said Jules Mukumbi, mayor of Matete.

This strategic plan offers a clear vision of the security challenges facing the commune. By identifying sensitive areas and proposing concrete solutions, it charts the way towards a safer future for the inhabitants of Matete. **Mr.** Mukumbi stressed the importance of involving the population in the implementation of this plan: **”**We call on the entire population to get involved in this work. With all the strategies listed in this book, insecurity can be eradicated in our commune,**”** he announced.

The process of developing this plan began in October 2023, under the supervision of the General Inspectorate of the Territorial and with the support of MONUSCO, Civil Affairs Section. This collaboration made it possible to establish a solid plan adapted to the specific needs of the commune of Matete. Chrysostome Tshibambe, representative of the Inspector of the Territorial, encouraged the inhabitants of Matete to fully invest in the implementation of this local security plan. **”**We want insecurity to be eradicated in the commune of Matete in the days to come,**”** he stressed.

With its 46 neighborhoods, Matete is one of the large communes of the city of Kinshasa. This local security plan offers a glimmer of hope for a safer and more prosperous future for all residents of Matete. Through the commitment and determination of the community, insecurity can be fought and defeated.
