The menacing shadow of Turji lingers in the North-West region of Nigeria, with particular dominance in Zamfara and Sokoto states. Wanted for a series of kidnapping operations and killings of innocents, Turji remains elusive despite efforts by Nigerian troops to capture him.

Following the intensification of operations against bandits operating in Zamfara, Sokoto and surrounding states last month, troops eliminated Kachallah Buzu, considered by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert, as the leader of Turji’s organization. However, the criminal in question continues to taunt Nigerian authorities through videos posted on social media, boasting of his supposed invincibility.

The Minister ordered the troops to arrest Turji, expressing the President’s satisfaction at the progress made in the fight against terrorism in the region in recent months. However, challenges remain and President Tinubu’s support to eradicate insecurity in the North-West and Nigeria as a whole remains steadfast.

During his visit to the Brigade One Headquarters in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the Minister commended the efforts of the troops and encouraged them to redouble their efforts to end the insecurity plaguing the region. “Are you ready to end it? Are you ready to end it once and for all? Get me this Turji,” the Minister said.

The visit was part of a series of briefings on the military operations conducted by Operation Fansar Yamma in Gusau, underscoring the continued commitment of the authorities to combat insecurity in the region. The hunt for Turji remains an urgent objective for the Nigerian security forces, determined to restore peace and security in the North-West region.

In a context of persistent security challenges, the need for rapid and coordinated action remains paramount to put an end to the bandits’ exactions and restore the confidence of the local populations. The capture of Turji would represent a major step forward in this fight against insecurity and a strong message sent to criminals operating in the region.
