The recent BRICS summit chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s commitment to the bloc’s principles and lines of action. During the meeting, it was stressed that expanding BRICS membership reflects the bloc’s countries’ intention to strengthen multilateral cooperation and defend the voice and interests of developing countries in the international arena.
In a global context marked by common challenges such as climate change, food security, growing poverty, and digital inequality, Egypt stresses the importance of strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries. This cooperation should extend to the areas of financial transactions in local currencies, investing in the bloc’s countries’ comparative advantages, and launching joint economic, investment, and development projects.
The crucial role of the private and women’s sectors was also highlighted, emphasizing their importance in efforts to achieve sustainable development. The President welcomed the reports presented by the President of the BRICS Development Bank, as well as representatives of the BRICS Business Council, the BRICS Businesswomen Alliance and the BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism.
Egypt was honored to host the first international forum of the BRICS Development Bank in June, demonstrating its commitment to raising awareness of the bank’s operations and its support to the public and private sectors, while exploring prospects for future cooperation among BRICS member states.
Furthermore, in the face of the shortcomings of the current international economic and development system, Egypt stresses the urgent need to establish innovative and effective mechanisms for financing development, as well as comprehensive strategies to ensure sustainable debt management of developing countries.
Finally, Egypt considers it essential to strengthen the multilateral international system, with the United Nations and its agencies as a fundamental pillar for preserving the gains made in peace, security and development. This system remains crucial to ensuring global security and prosperity.
The BRICS Summit chaired by Egyptian President al-Sisi therefore marked an important step in promoting cooperation among member countries, paving the way for innovative and concerted initiatives for sustainable development and global stability.
