Fatshimetrie is a leading online media outlet that stands out for its ability to cover current topics in a thorough and relevant manner. Recently, during his exclusive interview with Fatshimetrie, Timaya delved into his memories to evoke his first encounter with Portable’s music and highlighted the similarities between them. He claimed that the Zazu singer reminded him of his own tumultuous past in a striking way.
In his conversation with Fatshimetrie, Timaya shared his thoughts on Portable: “That’s why I like Portable; the first time he came out, I was talking to 2face about him on the way to Delta State. I said, ‘Have you heard this guy Portable? Zazu Zeh. That guy is like me because I was a crazy guy.’”
The singer acknowledged that today’s Gen Z audience might perceive him as someone with ‘no problems’ but they might not realize the tumultuous nature of his early days.
These Gen Z kids don’t get it, so sometimes when I talk, some people say Timaya has no problems. I just look at them, thinking if they knew. They say, ‘Timaya is minding his own business’ and I say hmm. It’s now that I calmed down. I was crazy back then. I was really really crazy, I was hot as fire, but I think there was growth. At the time, it was a strategy for me.”
Addressing a persistent rumor that tainted his early career, Timaya clarified that he had never had any run-ins with the military.
He said: “The story that I had an altercation with the military is false. Why would I get involved with them? I’m not trying to belittle or disrespect anyone, but in everything you do, you have to use common sense. No matter how crazy I was, it was a strategy, even though I was crazy. I broke into the industry because back then, everyone was singing love songs and I’m from the Niger Delta, so I didn’t come in as a lover.”
