Strengthening international military ties: A look back at the MEDUSA-13 exercise in Greece

Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief-of-Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, recently participated in the joint military exercise “MEDUSA-13” in Greece, alongside forces from Greece, Cyprus, France and Saudi Arabia. The drill, which involved Egyptian air, naval and special forces, took place over several days. It was an opportunity for the chiefs of staff and commanders of the armed forces of the participating countries to share their expertise and strengthen their military cooperation.

The main exercise began on board the helicopter carrier “Anwar al-Sadat”, where General Khalifa was able to attend a detailed presentation of the activities carried out during the first phases of the exercise. On the sidelines of the maneuvers, he also paid tribute to the unknown soldiers by laying a wreath and visited the headquarters of the Greek General Staff of Defense, which was hosted by an official reception marked by the anthem of both countries.

During his visit, General Khalifa met with the Chief of the Greek National Defense Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, and the Greek Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias. These meetings provided an opportunity to discuss various topics of common interest, as well as current regional and international developments.

The “MEDUSA-13” military exercise featured several training activities, including unconventional combat exercises and live firing, as well as joint planning for the management of air and naval operations in the face of various threats. Egypt’s participation in this exercise is part of its commitment to strengthening military cooperation with its international partners.

Other countries, such as Italy, Bahrain, Rwanda, Bulgaria and Morocco, also participated in “MEDUSA-13” as observers. In parallel, the special forces of the participating countries conducted the joint exercises “Mena 3” and “Hercules 3” to exchange their expertise and standardize their operational concepts.

This international involvement demonstrates the high level of training and collaboration achieved by the armed forces of the participating countries, thus strengthening regional security and stability. The “MEDUSA-13” exercise represents a unique opportunity for partner nations to develop their operational capabilities and consolidate their military ties in a spirit of cooperation and solidarity.
