Egypt’s art scene shines once again with the Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF) presenting three captivating dance performances. In the spotlight, “The Extra Mile” and “What Meets the Eye”, choreographed and directed by Lotte Sigh from Denmark, make their world premiere in Saudi. Adding to this spectacle, “Manger Les Mots”, directed by Mounir Said from Egypt and Nagham Salah Osman from Sudan, reveals a unique artistic fusion for the world premiere.
The event takes place at the Greater Cairo Public Library, offering an internationally renowned artistic program for its 12th edition. The performances take place on Monday and Tuesday, at 8pm. A unique opportunity for the public to immerse themselves in these exceptional performances, with admission free upon prior reservation via the festival’s social media channels.
“The Extra Mile” explores the concept of excess through voluminous draping and intense dramaturgy, inviting the audience into a sensual and playful reflection. The work highlights the idea of pushing the boundaries and overcoming life’s obstacles together, demonstrating masterful physical virtuosity.
For its part, “What Meets The Eye” imagines a captivating visual experience, where two dancers transform themselves into living sculptures, inspired by the imposing works of Giacometti. An original exploration of elongated and thin forms, sublimated by organic surfaces in a hypnotic ballet.
Finally, “Manger Les Mots”, or “Eating the Words” in English, fuses monologues, songs and dance, to address the theme of misunderstandings. This contemporary performance by Mounir Saeed and Nagham Salah Othman invites the audience into a deep reflection on communication and the multiple facets of human understanding.
Through these three unique creations, the D-CAF Festival celebrates artistic diversity and cultural exchange. An unmissable event for fans of contemporary dance, promising an extraordinary sensory experience.
