**Roads Inaugurated in Bauchi, Nigeria: A Step Towards Development**

Last Sunday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo inaugurated several major roads in Bauchi, marking a significant step towards the development and improvement of the country’s infrastructure. These included the seven-kilometre Awala-Mairuguri dual carriageway, as well as the 17.70-kilometre Awalah-Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa road leading to the national airport. In addition, the 30-kilometre Gubi-Ruda Bida-Siyi-Nasarawa road was also inaugurated during the ceremony.

In his speech, Obasanjo stressed the critical importance of education and human capacity building in ensuring development and creating a safer society. He highlighted the fact that over 20 million children are currently out of school, representing a significant proportion of the Nigerian population. Highlighting the danger it poses in terms of recruitment for extremist groups such as Boko Haram, Obasanjo called on leaders at all levels to join hands to find a lasting solution to the scourge.

The construction and renovation of the roads was lauded by Obasanjo, who commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his initiative. He noted that the projects will not only improve transport infrastructure and boost trade, but also create new opportunities for economic development. The new roads will also help make life easier for local residents and farmers, demonstrating commitment to the progress and well-being of the people of Bauchi.

Governor Mohammed noted that the road works are part of a broader transformation vision of his administration. With over 116 roads and nearly 1,500 kilometres of roads constructed so far, the administration has clearly demonstrated its commitment to the development and progress of the state. On the 79 roads already completed and ready for inauguration, the governor highlighted the importance of these achievements to the future and sustainable growth of Bauchi.
