Fatshimetrie, the region’s leading media outlet, was buzzing with contagious excitement on Saturday night. A wave of jubilation swept members of the All Progressives of the Continent (APC) in Kaduna State as the State Independent Electoral Commission (SEICOM) announced the results of the local government elections.
Hajara Mohammed, the Kaduna SEICOM chairperson, said the APC had won all 23 local council chairpersons and all 255 councillor positions in the state.
“The eight political parties that fielded candidates are ADC, APC, APGA, LP, NNPP, PDP, PRP and YPP,” Hajara said.
She noted that “the polling agents have submitted their reports, and at the end of the exercise, 23 won the council chairperson positions and 255 won the councillor positions.
“The 23 local council heads and 255 ward heads have declared the results in their respective constituencies and submitted their results in accordance with the law, alongside the polling station presiding officers.
“By the power vested in me by the Commission, I hereby wish to confirm the results earlier obtained and returned by the ward heads. I confirm the results as follows; APC won all the 23 local council chairperson positions and 255 ward councillor positions across the state.”
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State described the elections as peaceful, free and fair. Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at LEA Kawo O47 polling unit on Saturday, he expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the local government elections across the state.
“The elections were generally free, fair and peaceful, with only a few irregularities reported in three polling units and constituencies. The turnout in all 23 localities was satisfactory. The All Progressives Congress (APC) campaigned extensively across the state. In any election, there are winners and losers,” the Governor said.
Overall, the echo of these local government elections resonates as a testimony of democracy in action and the civic engagement of the citizens of Kaduna State. These results reaffirm the strong position of the APC in the region and pave the way for local governance based on trust and accountability to the people.
