Fatshimetrie, October 19, 2024 – During the commemorative ceremony of the first anniversary of the death of Ne Muanda Nsemi, spiritual leader of the politico-religious group Bundu Dia Mayala, a strong request was made: the revision of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This event, which was held in the Nsona room in Matadi, in the province of Kongo Central, brought together leading personalities, including Dominique Nkodia Mbete, mayor of the city of Matadi.
In his speech, Mr. Mbete highlighted the legacy left by Ne Muanda Nsemi, emphasizing his incessant struggle for Kongo values and for the establishment of democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He recalled the sacrifice of many martyrs of Bundu Dia Kongo, ready to give their lives so that the country could benefit from a more just and equitable political system.
It is interesting to note that the Mayor of Matadi spoke of the need to establish a federalist system within the Constitution, in order to better meet the aspirations of the different communities that make up the DRC. This request for constitutional reform reflects the desire for change and progress expressed by the Bundu Dia Mayala movement, which intends to work alongside the ruling party, the UDPS, to change the country’s institutional framework.
Indeed, Bundu Dia Kongo is above all a spiritual movement, carrying an ancestral vision deeply rooted in the history and culture of the Kongo people. The disappearance of Ne Muanda Nsemi does not mean the end of this vision, quite the contrary; it calls for the transmission and preservation of this heritage, so that future generations can draw inspiration from it and perpetuate it.
The commemoration of the first anniversary of the death of Ne Muanda Nsemi is thus an opportunity to celebrate the life and work of this great leader, but also to reaffirm the values of dignity and solidarity that have always animated the Bundu Dia Mayala movement. It is in this spirit of respect and recognition that the participants experienced this event, under the benevolent gaze of the representative of the provincial governor, who also paid tribute to the memory of Ne Muanda Nsemi.
In conclusion, this commemorative ceremony was rich in emotions and symbols, marking an important moment in the history of the DRC. The request for a revision of the Constitution, led by Bundu Dia Mayala, opens new perspectives for the future of the country, by highlighting the need for more inclusive governance that respects the identities and aspirations of all citizens.
