In a political climate marked by the expectation of significant changes, Edo State is preparing for a historic transition of power. November 12, 2024 will mark the beginning of a new era, with the inauguration of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the governor-elect. At the inaugural meeting of the Joint Transition Committee of the state, both parties expressed their commitment to a smooth transition from the current government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki to the next administration.

The team of the current governor, led by the State Secretary to Government (SSG), Joseph Eboigbe, stressed the transparency and openness of their administration. They promised to make available all necessary documents, whether in hard copy or digital, and committed to providing all necessary information to clarify outstanding issues. This willingness to be transparent demonstrates a genuine desire to collaborate to ensure a smooth transition.

The inaugural joint meeting of the Transition Committee was held at the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA) with members of both parties in attendance. The meeting underscored the importance of all stakeholders cooperating to ensure a successful transition.

The Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, stressed that the primary objective of the transition committee was to facilitate a smooth transfer of power. He stressed the importance of all members working together to ensure a smooth transition.

The Secretary of State for Government, Joseph Eboigbe, recalled that the transition committee was set up in July 2024 with a mandate to ensure a smooth transition to the new government. As Chairman of the Governor-elect Transition Committee and former Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Pius Odubu welcomed the commencement of the transition exercise by the government. Emphasis was placed on the need for transparency and information sharing to ensure that the new government is fully informed.
