Since the beginning of the year, the province of Haut-Katanga has been facing a worrying resurgence of cholera cases. With more than three thousand cases recorded and more than one hundred and sixty deaths recorded in several health zones, the situation is most worrying. However, it is in the health zone of Lukafu that the situation seems particularly critical, with reports of a lack of government support in the fight against this deadly disease.

Residents of Lukafu denounce a lack of government support in the management of the cholera epidemic, accusing the authorities of negligence. However, the Minister of Health of Haut-Katanga, Joseph Sambi Bulanda, refutes these allegations and assures that the province is responding promptly and effectively to this health crisis.

According to the minister, measures have been put in place to anticipate and intervene quickly in the event of new reported cases of cholera. The necessary supplies are pre-positioned in the most remote areas of the province, in order to ensure a rapid and effective response. Despite the challenges encountered, Joseph Sambi Bulanda affirms that efforts are being made to support all health zones equitably.

Regarding the situation in Lukafu, the Minister specifies that cases have been reported and that the supplies have been delivered in a timely manner. He emphasizes that the province has recorded an alarming number of cholera cases since the beginning of the year, testifying to the seriousness of the situation. Local authorities and the provincial team are mobilized to deal with this epidemic and provide the necessary assistance to the affected populations.

Ultimately, the fight against cholera in the Haut-Katanga province requires collective mobilization and effective coordination between health authorities and the population. It is crucial to strengthen prevention measures, ensure rapid access to care and raise awareness among the population on good hygiene practices. Only concerted action will help contain the spread of this disease and protect the health of the region’s residents.
