As part of its defence operations, the army has recently made significant strides in its fight against terrorism and insecurity in different parts of the country. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, revealed that significant progress has been made in the past week.
Several successful operations were carried out, particularly in the North East where troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 54 terrorists, apprehended 71 suspects and rescued 39 hostages. In addition, a large stockpile of weapons was discovered and 74 terrorists, including men, women and children, surrendered.
In the North West, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Whirl Punch eliminated 28 terrorists, arrested 57 others and rescued 44 hostages. Air operations were also successfully conducted, destroying terrorist camps and neutralizing enemy targets, such as the notorious terrorist leader Malam Yaddi.
In the central part of the country, troops from Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke also achieved positive results by neutralizing 12 violent extremists, arresting 42 suspects and freeing 56 hostages. These successes were the result of effective coordination between the different branches of the military and the use of strategic intelligence.
In the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe dismantled 60 illegal refinery sites and seized significant quantities of stolen petroleum products. In addition, 45 individuals involved in oil theft were apprehended, demonstrating the commitment of the armed forces to combating criminal activities in the region.
Finally, in the South-East, Operation UDO KA succeeded in neutralizing seven terrorists, arresting 12 violent extremists and rescuing 18 hostages. This series of successes demonstrates the resolute commitment of the armed forces to protect the civilian population and eradicate terrorist groups that threaten the stability of the country.
