Musical revolution in Africa: ‘One Drum’ EP redefines sonic boundaries

There is no doubt that the highly anticipated release of the EP ‘One Drum’ marked a major turning point in the music industry, delivering a vibrant fusion of Afrobeats, reggae and Amapiano sounds that successfully united the African continent and its diaspora in an unprecedented cultural celebration.

The EP got off to a flying start with two hit singles, ‘AfroWave’ by South Africa’s Scorpion Kings and ‘Let’s Dance’ by Nigerian sensation Flavour. These tracks set important milestones for what is set to be a musical revolution.

The EP’s title track, ‘Stop Stressin’, is a powerful and rhythmic collaboration between two reggae icons: Stephen Marley and the legendary Buju Banton. Produced by South African musical pioneer and multi-Grammy winning producer Gordon “The Commissioner” Williams, this track masterfully blends Afrobeat and reggae. Driven by inspiring lyrics, a punchy bassline and pulsating beats, ‘Stop Stressin’ delivers a message of resilience and positivity, establishing itself as a must-have from the ‘One Drum’ EP.

Another gem from the EP, Sofiya Nzau’s ‘Besa’ promises to become a smash hit on dancefloors around the world. The track comes in two captivating versions: an Afrohouse version, rich with deep African rhythms, and an energetic Amapiano version that makes it a club anthem. Sung in Kikuyu, ‘Besa’ highlights Sofiya’s charismatic charm and powerful delivery, making this track a standout performance that is a testament to her versatility and international appeal.

Sofiya Nzau, whose fame continues to grow, said: “The energy behind ‘Besa’ is about freedom, joy and the heartbeat of Africa. I wanted this song to capture the essence of who we are while making people dance.”

Finally, the ‘One Drum’ EP also shines with the deeply spiritual track ‘Coming Home’, featuring the late Joseph (Mercar) Marley, alongside his brothers Zion Marley and Thee Legacy, a South African isicathamiya ensemble, in a soulful ballad that invites the African diaspora to reconnect with their roots.

This bold and innovative musical collaboration has captivated listeners around the world with its rich artistry, powerful message and ability to transcend cultural boundaries. The EP ‘One Drum’ is undoubtedly a masterpiece that testifies to the diversity and exceptional creativity of the African music scene and its diaspora, thus promising to mark the history of international music.
