Lucy Tamlyn’s humanitarian mission in Gbadolite: a symbol of hope and solidarity

Fatshimétrie: Lucy Tamlyn, American envoy with a noble humanitarian heart, recently visited Gbadolite, capital of the province of Nord-Ubangi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This mission, surrounded by a major humanitarian delegation, took place from Tuesday, October 15 to Thursday, October 17. Her journey led her to visit the essential infrastructure built in the province by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as well as to exchange with local authorities, Central African refugees and indigenous populations of the region.

The American ambassador paid particular attention to the Central African refugee camp of Inke, located 45 kilometers from Gbadolite, and to the Nzakara site in Mobayi-Mbongo, about thirty kilometers from the city. In Nzakara, she symbolically laid the first stone of a bakery intended to support the autonomy of the cooperatives of Central African refugees residing on the site.

During a press conference held on Thursday, October 17 in the governorate of Nord-Ubangi, Lucy Tamlyn highlighted the quality of the welcome given to Central African refugees in the province. She praised the social cohesion and well-being shared between the different communities since 2013, and expressed her gratitude to the local population for their remarkable hospitality.

In a context where the voluntary return and reintegration of refugees remain major issues, the American diplomat stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable communities established in Nord-Ubangi, while continuing discussions with the Central African government to facilitate the repatriation of refugees.

The Democratic Republic of Congo currently hosts more than 210,000 Central African refugees spread across several provinces, including Nord and Sud-Ubangi as well as Bas-Uélé. The province of Nord-Ubangi alone is home to approximately 115,000 Central African refugees who fled the atrocities of their country in 2013.

Lucy Tamlyn, through her commitment and determination, embodies hope for peace and security for these vulnerable populations. Her unwavering support for the repatriation and reintegration of refugees demonstrates the international solidarity that is essential for building a better future, where the dignity and rights of each individual are respected.

This visit by Lucy Tamlyn to Gbadolite resonates as a symbol of solidarity and humanity, reminding us that every gesture, even the most modest, can contribute to changing lives and building a fairer and more harmonious world.
