Inauguration of the new building of the Elikya na biso Center in Kinshasa: A step towards an inclusive and united society

Fatshimetrie, October 17, 2024 (ACP) – A historic page was written this Thursday in Kinshasa with the inauguration of the new building of the Elikya na biso Center, located in the Kimbondo district of the commune of Mongafula. The ceremony, marked by an atmosphere of joy and hope, was an opportunity to celebrate not only the installation of a new headquarters, but also the acquisition of a generator to compensate for recurring power cuts.

Merando Nankwaya, coordinator of the activities of the Elikya na biso Center, expressed her satisfaction with the new possibilities offered by this new building. She emphasized the commitment of the institution to train and supervise children with mental and physical disabilities, as well as to provide medical care to children with cerebral palsy.

At the heart of the Elikya na biso Center’s actions is a comprehensive program of literacy, training in aesthetics, sewing, housekeeping, security, and many other areas. With regard to medical care, the institution provides funding for medication and other necessary expenses, thus meeting the sometimes neglected needs of these vulnerable children.

In addition, the Elikya na biso Center is making significant efforts to combat the rejection and stigmatization of children with disabilities and their mothers. A specific component is dedicated to affected women, and special attention is paid to orphans, sickle cell patients, heart disease, epileptics, and other vulnerable groups.

The actions undertaken by the Elikya na biso Center were made possible thanks to the support of many partners, including the Swedish Embassy in the DRC, the Volvo company, Sodeiko, and other actors committed to the social cause. This collaboration demonstrates the collective mobilization in favor of promoting the rights of children with disabilities and their inclusion in Congolese society.

In conclusion, the inauguration of the new building of the Elikya na biso Center represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and united society, where every child, regardless of their disability, can find their place and access a dignified and fulfilling life. This initiative deserves to be welcomed and supported for the values of humanity and mutual aid that it embodies.
