Congolese women have always been the first to suffer from the violence and conflicts that shake the Democratic Republic of Congo. Yet, despite this harsh reality, they have proven to be true pillars in building peace and transforming their communities. It is this crucial role that these courageous women have played that was highlighted at the recent Humanitarian Congress held in Berlin, Germany.
Sandrine Lusamba, coordinator of the NGO “Feminine Solidarity for Peace and Development (SOFEPADI)”, highlighted the commitment and determination of Congolese women to act as mediators, defenders and peacemakers. In areas plagued by violence and conflict, these women stand up to prevent crises and promote reconciliation within their communities.
As the humanitarian context in conflict zones becomes increasingly precarious, local organizations are stepping up their efforts to meet urgent needs and ensure the safety of vulnerable populations. Sandrine Lusamba’s call to strengthen humanitarian aid resonates with urgency in the face of the growing challenges facing these distressed communities.
The importance of the responsible withdrawal of MONUSCO, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the DRC, was also highlighted. It is essential to ensure that this withdrawal is done in a way that respects the rights of local populations and does not compromise the already fragile security and stability in the provinces concerned.
Ultimately, Congolese women continue to break barriers and stand tall in an environment marked by violence and uncertainty. Their resilience, courage and determination make them essential actors in building lasting peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is time to fully recognize and support the essential role they play in the quest for a peaceful and prosperous future for their country.
