Management of internally displaced persons in the DRC: a call for international solidarity

During the recent meeting between Jacquemain Shabani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Security of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, discussions focused on a crucial issue: the management of internally displaced persons in the DRC. With more than 7 million people displaced, it is imperative to seek the assistance of the High Commissioner and the mobilization of the international community to address this humanitarian crisis.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of raising awareness and involving the international community in the management of this critical situation. He stressed that the consequences of this crisis also have international implications and called for concerted action to address them. Collaboration with UNHCR is essential, particularly to facilitate the return of Congolese refugees to their country of origin, working in partnership with the neighboring countries concerned.

The establishment of a tripartite involving UNHCR and neighbouring countries such as the Central African Republic and Rwanda is an essential measure to ensure effective cooperation in the management of migration flows and forced displacement. This approach will help find durable solutions for the return of refugees in safe and dignified conditions.

The meeting in Geneva thus highlighted the commitment of the Congolese government to work in collaboration with international actors to address the humanitarian challenges facing the country. The mobilization of international resources and expertise is crucial to ensure an effective and coordinated response to this humanitarian crisis.

In conclusion, the situation of internally displaced persons in the DRC requires urgent and coordinated action by the international community. Collaboration between the Congolese government, UNHCR and neighbouring countries is essential to find durable solutions and ensure the protection of displaced persons. It is imperative to maintain this momentum of cooperation to ensure a safe and dignified return for Congolese refugees.
