Fight against pirate markets in Kinshasa: an urban transformation initiative underway

Fatshimetrie, October 15, 2024 – A new major initiative has been launched in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The awareness campaign on compliance with standards in urban areas has been launched, with the main objective of eradicating pirate markets in the city. This initiative, integrated into Operation “Coup de poing”, officially began on Monday, October 14 under the leadership of Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki, on the Tshobo field, located in the commune of Matete.

The Governor stressed the importance of this campaign by highlighting the need to enforce the law in various areas such as road traffic, sanitation and other sectors of social life. The National Service, led by Major General Jean-Pierre Kasongo Kabwik, has been designated as the driving force behind this delicate mission. With commitment and determination, the National Service personnel have pledged to provide their unfailing support for the success of this ambitious undertaking.

At the same time, the city of Kinshasa has actively engaged in concrete actions in favor of urban sanitation and safety. The cleaning of gutters and the cleaning of major arteries have already begun, particularly on the Boulevard du 30 Juin and on the Avenue des Huileries. The support of the National Service is added to the support of the military engineering services of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), thus reinforcing the efforts intended to beautify and secure the Congolese capital.

This initiative reflects a major change in the urban management of Kinshasa, demonstrating the authorities’ desire to make the city more pleasant and secure for its residents. The awareness campaign on compliance with urban standards is a significant step towards improving living conditions in the capital. It also heralds a promising future for the development of Kinshasa as a modern and well-ordered metropolis.

Ultimately, this approach demonstrates a community desire to transform Kinshasa into an exemplary city, where respect for standards and rules of civic-mindedness prevail. This is a crucial step in the process of development and transformation of the Congolese capital, towards a prosperous and balanced city.
