The leadership crisis within the PDP: the urgency of unity and action

Fatshimetrie, a blog dedicated to political and social analysis, looks at the leadership crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) according to a recent publication. Fayose’s worried remarks highlight the urgency of resolving this crisis that has plunged the party into a state of deep disarray.

In a deeply concerned tone, Fayose underscores the urgent need to address this leadership crisis within the PDP. He says that this crisis has plunged the party into a state of total disorganization. “As I always say, we can defeat the APC, but if we no longer have a party, how can we defeat them?” he asks.

Fayose laments the lack of cohesion within the PDP, highlighting the growing rift between party members and the leadership. He questions the party’s ability to mount a serious challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next presidential elections in 2027.

The former governor does not mince words in his criticism of Atiku Abubakar, urging him to withdraw from the electoral race. “When we complain about the APC and we no longer have a party, you can say you will do this or that, but when Obi is the voice of the opposition now,” he stresses.

Fayose thus raises a crucial point that highlights the current fragility of the PDP and the dire need to consolidate ranks to envisage a genuine and effective political alternative. This situation raises critical questions about the future of the party and how it can reposition itself to be more heard in Nigeria’s changing political landscape. Voters expect the PDP to take up this challenge and show that it is a strong and united political actor, ready to defend their interests and propose credible alternatives to the current governance.
