Fatshimétrie, October 13, 2024 – In the heart of the South Kivu territories, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a wind of hope blows on many women in difficulty thanks to the invaluable support of the Association of Women for the Promotion and Endogenous Development (AFPDE). Since its creation, this structure has been actively committed to supporting vulnerable households, particularly single mothers and unemployed women, in their quest for autonomy and prosperity.
Since 2019, AFPDE has implemented concrete initiatives aimed at strengthening the economic power of beneficiaries. Thanks to dedicated teams and innovative projects, entire families have been able to benefit from significant financial support, thus improving family well-being and meeting essential needs such as education, health and children’s nutrition.
Through the creation of 300 village savings and credit associations (AVEC) in the territories of Uvira, Fizi, Walungu and Idjwi, AFPDE has established sustainable structures enabling women and young mothers to generate income and develop their economic activities. These associations have become essential pillars for these women, offering them opportunities for growth and financial autonomy.
At the same time, AFPDE has been supporting more than 800 small farmers since 2022, providing them with agronomic advice, tools and quality seeds to combat food insecurity and undernourishment. These concrete actions contribute to improving the living conditions of these farmers and ensuring the food security of their families.
In addition, AFPDE has opened a learning and vocational training center, called “Tulizo”, offering women wishing to learn sewing an opportunity to acquire new skills and become professionals. This initiative aims to promote the economic and social emancipation of women, by offering them future prospects and sustainable employment opportunities.
Over the years, AFPDE has been able to build strong and committed partnerships, thus strengthening its impact within local communities and its ability to effectively support women in vulnerable situations. Thanks to its unwavering commitment and inclusive vision, AFPDE continues to transform the lives of many women and their families, offering bright future prospects and renewed hope for the entire population.
