Strengthening security in the DRC: Crucial counter-terrorism training

Fatshimetrie, October 13, 2024 – The Democratic Republic of Congo continues its fight against terrorism, radicalization and violent extremism by training about twenty police officers and soldiers in Kinshasa. This training, provided by MONUSCO, is crucial in the current context marked by terrorist attacks in the east of the country.

The Divisional Commissioner of the Congolese Police, Awachango Umiya, stressed the importance of strengthening the capacities of the security forces in the face of the terrorist threat. He welcomed the commitment of President Félix Tshisekedi in the fight against insecurity caused by armed groups, and called for the establishment of similar training throughout the country.

The representative of the MONUSCO Police, Emile Nana, stressed the urgency of this training, in line with the vision of the international organization aimed at preparing actors in the penal chain to deal with terrorism and improve security, particularly in prisons.

The topics covered during the training focused on digital investigations, criminal analyses, the risks of radicalization and cyber initiation. One participant stressed the need to organize computer training, to reach all units of the Police and Armed Forces and to register detainees.

This initiative demonstrates the determination of the DRC to fight terrorism and strengthen security throughout its territory. The training of these security agents is of capital importance in the prevention and management of terrorist threats, thus guaranteeing the protection of citizens and the stability of the country.

This proactive and visionary approach demonstrates the commitment of the Congolese authorities and the international community to work hand in hand to ensure security and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
