Mobilization of Congolese women for justice: honoring the memory of Alexandra Martine Diengo Lumbayi

The women of the NGO “Génération femme” and the first women’s radio station in the Democratic Republic of Congo, mobilized this Friday, October 11 in Kinshasa to express their deep indignation following the tragic death of Alexandra Martine Diengo Lumbayi, a Congolese student in Canada. This sad news aroused strong emotion within the Congolese community and triggered a united and committed reaction from women activists.

Their peaceful march, which began at Boulevard du 30 juin, ended at the Canadian embassy in the DRC, where a memorandum demanding truth and justice for the deceased was given to the Canadian ambassador. Ms. Elfie-Esther Nkishi, president of the NGO “Génération femme” and General Director of Radio de la femme, stressed the urgent need to understand the circumstances of Alexandra Martine’s death and to ensure that those responsible for this tragedy answer for their actions.
