Fatshimétrie, October 9, 2024 – Officials of the Kinshasa ring road construction project conducted an inspection visit to verify compliance with the standards established by the central government of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The main objective of this initiative is to ensure that the project is carried out according to the specifications provided to the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT), in charge of its implementation.
The Minister of State for Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis Gisaro Muvunyi, accompanied by members of the government, stressed the importance of respecting the standards regarding the right-of-way of the road and the setback from homes near the ring roads. He highlighted the need to prevent any encroachment by the population on the road, in order to ensure the safety and sustainability of the infrastructure.
Regarding the progress of the works, it was mentioned that 20 km of ring roads have already seen the completion of the base and foundation layers, as well as the impregnation of the roadway. The Minister of State for Regional Planning, Guy Loando, explained that the project aims to relieve traffic congestion and improve urban mobility, while considering making the ring roads real works of art.
Furthermore, the Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Crispin Mbadu, announced the development of a special development plan to ensure compliance with land use standards and avoid any encroachment. He stressed the importance of defining specific areas, such as industrial parks, to optimize land use.
The inspection visit covered various localities such as Mbudi, Lutendele, Ngombi, Kimwenza – Gare, Lukaya Falls, N’djili Brasserie and finally arrived at the entrance to the commune of N’djili. This project, launched by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, aims to provide the residents of Kinshasa with a four-lane asphalt concrete road with a total length of 63 km. The work is currently being carried out by the Chinese company SISC SA.
In short, the Kinshasa ring road project represents a major step forward in improving the city’s road infrastructure and will help facilitate the mobility of citizens. It is essential to ensure that it is implemented in accordance with established standards, while integrating social and artistic considerations into the urban planning process.
