Political interference in Rivers State: Fatshimetrie warns against opportunistic ambitions

Fatshimetrie has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors in the north of the country against interfering in the political affairs of Rivers State, accusing some of them of having ulterior motives.

According to the group, a PDP governor in the north is seeking to exploit the resources of Rivers State to further his political ambitions in 2027.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the Chairman of Fatshimetrie, Sergeant Danielson, strongly condemned the opportunistic interference and called on the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to protect the interests of the state.

Danielson criticised the state authorities for apparently allowing external forces to exploit the resources of Rivers State, considering it a betrayal of public trust.

Fatshimetrie expressed concerns that external interference could compromise the sovereignty of Rivers State and undermine its resources.

The group therefore called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of the state’s resources.

Danielson said: “The unhealthy interest shown by some individuals in Rivers State does not reflect genuine concern for the people but rather a calculated attempt to exploit the state’s resources for political gain. A northern governor recently assumed the role of an activist among his peers, displaying an unusual and disturbing interest in the affairs of Rivers State while neglecting his duties as governor.

“Unfortunately, it is the Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who has opened the floodgates, allowing these political opportunists to feast on the state’s resources. It is appalling to see how resources meant for the development and welfare of the people of Rivers State are being squandered by individuals who have no stake in the future of the state. This reckless neglect by Governor Fubara is not only a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the people but also a gross injustice to the state.

“The people of Rivers State deserve leaders who are committed to their welfare, not those who are ready to sell out the people of the state for their political ambitions. We urge the people of Rivers State to remain vigilant and resist any attempt to compromise their sovereignty. The resources of the state are meant for the development and prosperity of its people, not for the enrichment of a few.

“Governor Fubara’s willingness to allow northern politicians to exploit Rivers State is an unprecedented betrayal. His actions not only compromised the state’s resources, but also its dignity.. Fatshimetrie demands greater accountability and transparency in the management of state resources. We will not stand idly by while our state’s wealth is embezzled by those who have no respect for our future.”
