Educational “Fatshimetry”: When Bandundu teachers stand up for their rights

“Fatshimetrie”, a look at education in Bandundu: Teachers in the Kwilu 1 educational province have decided to strengthen their strike movement that began on September 4. Gathered within four unions, FENECO/UNTC, SYNECAT, SYECO and CSC education, these teachers expressed their discontent during an extraordinary general assembly held in Bandundu city (Kwilu).

Their main demand concerns the non-compliance with their specifications filed with the provincial government, as well as the failure of the central government to take their grievances into account. Joseph Fitila Mbey, provincial president of the Kwilu 1 teachers’ inter-union, stressed that the commitments made have not been respected, in particular the lifting of the preventive suspension of a fellow union member, the payment of bonuses promised by the government and the resolution of the problems of new unit teachers who have not yet been paid.

Faced with this situation, teachers have decided to maintain and intensify their strike movement. They called on parents to keep their children at home and on their fellow teachers not to go to work until further notice. This decision shows the unity and determination of teachers in the Kwilu 1 educational province to uphold their rights and obtain satisfaction in the face of the problems encountered.

This situation highlights the major challenges facing the education sector in the DRC, particularly in terms of teachers’ working conditions, management of financial resources and compliance with commitments made. It is essential that the authorities respond effectively to teachers’ legitimate demands to ensure quality education and better management of children’s education in the province of Bandundu.

Thus, educational “Fatshimetrie”, a term reflecting the complex reality of education in the DRC, encourages in-depth reflection on the crucial issues related to the training of young generations, the promotion of the teaching profession and the need to invest sustainably in the education sector to guarantee a better future for all.
