Fatshimetrie, the train of history – a bridge to the future of Bir al-Abd

The desert landscape of Bir al-Abd in North Sinai recently witnessed a historic event: the return of the train after 57 years of absence. The first train from Ismailia Governorate crossed the al-Ferdan Bridge over the Suez Canal, ushering in a new era of connectivity for the region.

This train, which will now be available free of charge to all Sinai residents, will provide an affordable and reliable transportation alternative starting Saturday. This reintroduction of the train to the region is the result of the efforts made by the Ministry of Transportation to rehabilitate and modernize the railway infrastructure, marking a turning point in the economic and social development of the region.

Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel al-Wazir recently participated in the celebrations marking the launch of the pilot operation of the new development train in Sinai. This initiative is part of a larger project to rehabilitate and modernize the 500 km al-Ferdan/East Port Said/Bir al-Abd/Arish/Taba railway line.

The reopening of this railway line is of historic significance for the Sinai region, marking a new chapter in its economic and social development. North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer highlighted the importance of this event, calling it a historic moment, stressing that the presence of the train on Sinai soil is a sign of progress and modernization.

This project is part of the broader vision to create a logistics corridor connecting Arish to Taba, which will help promote the overall development of the Sinai Peninsula. By fostering regional connectivity and improving transport infrastructure, this initiative will play a crucial role in promoting trade and tourism in the region, opening up new opportunities for growth and prosperity for its residents.

In conclusion, the return of the train to Bir al-Abd is much more than just an act of transportation; it is a symbol of renewal and progress for the Sinai region. By investing in transport infrastructure, Egypt is paving the way for a more prosperous and connected future for its citizens.
