Fatshimetrie, October 1, 2024 – A wind of hope is blowing over the South Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the launch of the peace education campaign by the Forum of Women Leaders for Peace (FFLP) in Uvira. This initiative, launched following the International Day of Peace celebrated on September 21, aims to strengthen social cohesion and stability in the territories of Uvira, Fizi and Mwenga.
Godelive Lugambo, FFLP facilitator, stressed the importance of bringing together women from various communities to promote living together and social cohesion. She unveiled a one-year action plan that includes awareness-raising activities such as posters, banners and community meetings, all focused on transmitting messages of peace.
The Mayor of Uvira, Kiza Muhato, encouraged women to become ambassadors of peace, to embody love, empathy and collaboration without discrimination, essential values to foster sustainable development. He stressed the importance of women’s contribution to promoting regional peace and stability.
Bringing together women from various local communities, the FFLP made a strong call to build bridges through sincere dialogue, trust and kindness. These leaders called for respecting the rights of each person, practicing justice to ensure the stability and development of villages, the province and the country as a whole.
This peace education campaign is of paramount importance in a region historically marked by intercommunal conflicts. By giving women a central role in promoting social cohesion and dialogue, it lays the foundations for a more peaceful and prosperous future for South Kivu. Women’s voices are raised to promote unity, tolerance and solidarity, values that are essential to building a better future.
