The media world in the Democratic Republic of Congo is currently undergoing major changes with the decision of the new steering committee of the National Union of the Press of Congo (UNPC) to suspend the issuance of press cards. A measure that aims to clean up the profession by putting an end to abusive practices and the usurpation of the title of journalist.
The president of the UNPC, Baudouin Kamanda Wa Kamanda Muzembe, announced this decision after taking office at the head of the self-regulatory organization of journalists. This suspension of the issuance of press cards is also accompanied by the cessation of certificates serving as press cards, in order to guarantee the integrity and legitimacy of the journalistic profession in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This initiative aims to put an end to fraudulent practices and to strengthen ethics within the journalistic profession. Indeed, the president of the UNPC underlines the importance of respecting the laws and regulations governing the profession, as well as the need for journalists to protect their profession against any form of adventurism and usurpation.
Furthermore, this decision is part of a desire to revive the journalistic profession in the DRC, as evidenced by the theme of the 10th UNPC Congress, entitled “Renaissance, together we shape the future of our profession”. The new steering committee, elected at this congress, is committed to promoting ethics and transparency within the corporation, while valuing the work of real journalists.
The appointment of experienced leaders within the UNPC, such as Zegbia Wembulu Jasbey as Secretary General and Rachelle Kitsita as Treasury, demonstrates the desire to further professionalize the media sector in the DRC. This new team, under the leadership of Baudouin Kamanda Wa Kamanda Muzembe, embodies a vision of excellence and rigor, aimed at restoring the image of the Congolese press.
