President Bola Tinubu Pledges to Reduce Cost of Living in Nigeria: Concrete Steps and Promising Initiatives

In his Independence Day address, President Bola Tinubu highlighted his administration’s commitment to take appropriate measures to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria. This comes at a time when rising prices, especially of food, are top of mind for Nigerians.

The President noted that the issue is not unique to Nigeria but is common to many countries across the world where the cost of living is on the rise. However, he assured that concrete actions are being taken to ease the financial burden on citizens.

He commended the governors of Kebbi, Niger, Jigawa, Kwara, Nasarawa and South West states for adhering to his administration’s agricultural production programme. He urged other states to follow suit by investing in mechanized farming. The Federal Government is supporting this effort by providing fertilizers, tractors and other farm equipment.

Furthermore, the President announced the approval by the Federal Executive Council for the establishment of a local assembly plant for 2,000 John Deere tractors, combine harvesters, ploughs and other agricultural equipment. The initiative is aimed at enhancing food production and making agriculture more efficient.

On his administration’s energy transition agenda, the President said it was well on track. He mentioned the expansion of the adoption of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas for Public Transport, in collaboration with private sector players. The Federal Government also stands ready to support states in the procurement of compressed natural gas buses to provide cheaper public transport solutions.

In conclusion, President Bola Tinubu stressed that his administration is actively working to stabilise the economy, ensure national security and promote national unity. He affirmed his commitment to fostering social harmony and cohesion within the Nigerian society.
