Decisive meeting for the fight against sexual violence in the DRC

The meeting between Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi and Pramila Patten at the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York highlighted the significant progress made in the fight against conflict-related sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The two champions of this cause discussed the progress made, including the creation of the National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Sexual Violence and Crimes against the Peace and Security of Humanity (FONAREV), a key initiative to support victims and promote justice.

Discussions also focused on preparations for the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the mandate of Ms. Patten’s Office, a major event in raising awareness and combating violence committed in times of conflict.

Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi expressed her support for this commemoration and committed to actively participate in it, thus strengthening the involvement of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the fight against conflict-related sexual violence.
