Enugu Governor Calls on Local Government Officials to Take Action for Community Development

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, recently inaugurated the 17 local council chairmen and deputy chairmen elected in the September 21 local government elections in the state. At the ceremony, he gave them clear instructions to move quickly to implement projects and programmes that are focused on the needs of the people, in line with their campaign promises.

One of the key directives of Governor Mbah was to encourage the new council chairmen to relocate to their respective areas. According to him, gone are the days when these elected officials used to live far from their constituents in urban centres. He encouraged them to get involved in Smart Green School, rural infrastructure, agriculture projects, among others, to combat crime and create opportunities for children and youths in Enugu State.

The Governor stressed the importance of being proactive in solving problems, without procrastination. He highlighted the concept of disruptive innovation and reminded the newly elected officials that now is the time to move from words to action, meet the expectations of the people and find innovative solutions to persistent developmental challenges.

Another major point Governor Mbah made was the fight against insecurity. He stressed that no progress can be made without a secure and stable environment. He urged council chairmen to adopt an inclusive approach to governance and run councils from their local governments, being physically present alongside their constituents.

Reacting to the Governor’s remarks, the Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Okechukwu Edeh, pledged to implement the governor’s numerous development programmes at the local level. Similarly, the Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Hon. Obiora Obeagu, commended the Mbah Administration for its financial support to local councils and investment in critical projects such as smart schools and health centres.

In conclusion, the newly elected local officials were called upon for transparent governance, centered on the needs of citizens, and close collaboration with the state administration to ensure the harmonious development of all local governments in Enugu State.
