Kisangani Vert: Youth Committed to a Sustainable Future

The citizen initiative “Kisangani vert”, led by young people grouped within the Sun Shine Foundation, represents a significant step towards building a greener and more sustainable city. Indeed, this project aims to counter the harmful effects of global warming by planting three thousand royal palm trees in targeted neighborhoods of the city of Kisangani.

Supported by the European Union, “Kisangani vert” embodies the hope of a positive change in favor of the environment. The young volunteers, supervised by 30 facilitators, thus actively contribute to the preservation of local biodiversity and the fight against the devastating effects of climate change.

The intervention areas chosen for this first phase of the project, namely Lac Mukamba Avenue and the Poissons Salés depot, reveal a strategic desire to act where the needs are most pressing. Indeed, the Tshopo province has already been affected by the consequences of global warming, manifested in particular by recurring floods and a worrying degradation of the environment.

More than a simple reforestation initiative, “Kisangani vert” is part of an awareness-raising and mobilization process for the entire community. The inhabitants of Kisangani are invited to join this collective momentum to preserve their environment and build together a greener, more sustainable and more nature-friendly city.

The vision carried by the Sun Shine Foundation, embodied by its interim coordinator Sedar Kalaki, goes beyond the simple act of planting palm trees to be part of a real societal transformation. By engaging the population in an educational and participatory approach, this project aims to make Kisangani an example to follow in terms of sustainable development.

Thus, “Kisangani vert” stands out as a symbol of hope and concrete action in the face of current environmental challenges. By encouraging civic involvement and implementing concrete actions, this initiative illustrates the ability of young people to become agents of change and defenders of our planet. From now on, it is together that we can build a better future for future generations, where harmonious cohabitation between man and nature will be our top priority.

This project reminds us that every action counts, and that it is by joining forces and our wills that we can preserve the beauty of our planet for generations to come. May “Kisangani vert” inspire other similar initiatives and demonstrate the strength of civic commitment to the environment.
