Egypt-South Korea Partnership: Towards Strategic Economic Cooperation

Economic development and international partnerships are at the heart of the concerns of nations around the world. In this context, the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, and the South Korean Foreign Minister, Cho Tae-yul, is of particular importance.

During this meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Badr Abdelatty expressed his hope for the establishment of a South Korean industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This initiative is part of Egypt’s desire to strengthen its local industry and provide legislative and financial incentives to stimulate investment.

The Egyptian diplomat stressed his desire to continue developing relations between the two countries in various fields, particularly in economic and commercial cooperation. He highlighted the progress made in joint projects and the increase in South Korean investments in the Egyptian market during the past period.

Furthermore, Badr Abdelatty highlighted the promising investment opportunities offered by the major projects underway in Egypt, including those in the New Administrative Capital and the Suez Canal Economic Zone. He also discussed investment opportunities in the fields of hydrogen production, battery and electric vehicle manufacturing, as well as green technologies and energy storage.

Furthermore, Egypt hopes to maintain close coordination with South Korea in international multilateral forums, particularly within the framework of South Korea’s non-permanent presidency of the Security Council. Badr Abdelatty welcomed South Korea’s recent stances regarding the Gaza conflict.

However, the Minister also expressed his concerns about the dangerous developments in the Middle East, including the Israeli military escalations against Lebanon and the incessant attacks against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. He reaffirmed Egypt’s total rejection of allowing Israel to escape any form of accountability for its actions and act as a state above the law.

In this context, Badr Abdelatty stressed the need for the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to end the ongoing war and establish an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. He called for preventing the Middle East from sinking into the perils of a full-scale regional war..

The evolution of relations between Egypt and South Korea as well as geopolitical issues in the Middle East underscore the importance of international discussions and collaborations to promote peace, stability and economic development in the region and beyond.
