Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty reiterated last Saturday Egypt’s total opposition to any form of targeting of civilians, condemning Israeli attempts to expand the conflict. These statements were made during his participation in an urgent session of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Palestine, held in New York.
In his speech, Abdelatty stressed that the situation in the Gaza Strip is catastrophic despite numerous international calls to stop the massacres, genocide and targeting of civilians, as well as the continued mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar and the United States.
The Minister strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, affirming that the UN Security Council must assume its responsibilities and take the necessary measures to end the war and achieve an immediate, comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, so that the region does not slide into an open regional war.
He stressed Israel’s direct responsibility for the situation in Gaza and the region, adding that it should respect all decisions of the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice issued since the beginning of the crisis.
Egypt will spare no effort to end the war, ensure the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and support Palestinian positions against any attempt at forced displacement.
This statement underlines Egypt’s commitment to peace, security and the protection of the rights of civilian populations in the region, in the face of a disastrous situation that requires concerted international action to end the suffering of the populations affected by this devastating conflict.
