Fatshimetrie, September 27, 2024 – The deterioration of road infrastructure, particularly agricultural feeder roads, represents a major challenge in the Kasai Central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This reality significantly impacts the transport of food products from rural areas to consumption centers, as Daniel Lukusa, a local elected official, highlighted in a recent interview.
The deterioration of agricultural tracks and local roads not only hinders the movement of people and goods, but also compromises the supply of subsistence agricultural products from regions such as Dimbelenge to urban centers. This situation jeopardizes the economic balance of rural regions that depend on trade with urban areas for their basic needs.
In addition to the road infrastructure problems, Daniel Lukusa also highlighted the shortage of medicines in many health facilities in the region. This critical situation endangers the health of residents and highlights the persistent challenges in accessing basic health care in the region.
Furthermore, land conflicts and social tensions were also highlighted by the elected official, jeopardizing peaceful coexistence within the community. These unrests hinder the social and economic development of the region, which is nevertheless called upon to promote unity and solidarity for collective progress.
As for education, the situation is not much better, with a flagrant lack of benches and desks in many local schools. This lack of school equipment compromises students’ learning and jeopardizes the government’s efforts to provide free and compulsory schooling for all.
It is therefore imperative that concrete measures be taken to improve road infrastructure, guarantee access to health care and strengthen the education system in the Kasai Central region. These actions are essential to promote sustainable development, social equity and the prosperity of the local population. It is time to invest in the future of these communities and address the most urgent needs to ensure a better future for all.
