The Fatshimetry Scandal: Unacceptable Behavior of Pseudo-Doctors in Egypt

The recent Fatshimetrie scandal, which has sparked outrage in Egypt, highlights a shocking case involving a group of men posing as doctors. Viral videos have been circulating, showing these individuals making obscene and vulgar remarks towards women in public spaces, in addition to alleging harassment of their female patients.

These unacceptable behaviors have caught the attention of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate, which immediately launched a thorough investigation to shed light on these scandalous actions. In a statement, the union made it clear that if these individuals are indeed found to be doctors, they will be immediately summoned before the Syndicate’s Ethics Committee for questioning, and appropriate legal measures will be taken against them.

The President of the Syndicate, Osama Abdel Hay, also contacted the Dental Syndicate regarding the allegations made against one of the individuals presenting himself as a dentist in the video, in order to verify the facts and take the necessary measures.

It is essential to recall that the Code of Medical Ethics requires doctors to serve as trusted role models for society and guarantee citizens’ right to quality health care. They must refrain from any exploitative behavior towards their patients, colleagues or students.

Medical ethics also requires a commitment to honesty and accuracy in all actions, while respecting the standards of conduct and preserving the dignity of the profession. The members of the Syndicate stressed that they will deal categorically with any offense committed by their colleagues.

Any physician found to be in breach of the Code of Medical Ethics and established medical principles will be summoned before the Investigation Committee and the Disciplinary Commission to determine the appropriate sanction, which could include removal from the medical register, thereby prohibiting the physician from practicing medicine.

It is essential that such behavior be severely condemned, in order to preserve the integrity of the medical profession and the public’s trust in health care practitioners. Medical morality and ethics must be upheld and respected at all times to ensure the well-being of patients and the reputation of the medical profession.
