**Fatshimetrie: Monkeypox outbreak identified in North Kivu**
According to health authorities in North Kivu province, an outbreak of monkeypox, also known as Mpox, has been identified in the region. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Wednesday, September 25.
The tragedy struck the city of Beni, where three cases of Mpox were recorded, unfortunately resulting in the death of one person. The health zones of Mutwanga and Kyondo were affected, with one case each, while in the neighboring territory of Lubero, the health zones of Alimbongo and Mangurejipa also reported cases.
For its part, the city of Butembo was also affected by this epidemic, with a case recorded in the health zone of Katwa.
It is particularly worrying that some health zones in Greater North Kivu have not yet received a vaccine against Mpox, despite the spread of the epidemic. Only the health zones of Goma and Karisimbi have received it due to the number of cases reported so far.
Dr. Michel Tosalina, Chief Medical Officer of the Beni Health Zone, said that health zones not yet affected by the epidemic are stepping up their efforts to strengthen surveillance and prevent the spread of monkeypox.
Of the seventeen health zones in Greater North Kivu, five have already been affected by the Mpox epidemic. This situation underlines the urgency for authorities and health organizations to work together to stem the spread of this disease and protect the population.
Ultimately, it is essential to raise awareness among the population about preventive measures and encourage vaccination to limit the risks of contamination. Only a joint commitment from all stakeholders will make it possible to overcome this health crisis and preserve the health of the inhabitants of the North Kivu region.
