Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to return from injury to face Wolves in their next Premier League game, according to manager Arne Slot. Having been absent for the last two games, he looks set to return to action on Saturday.
Arne Slot told his pre-match press conference: “He trained yesterday with part of the group, so we expect him to be in the full session today. So we think he will be available, but of course we have to train today.”
He also highlighted the performance of Caoimhin Kelleher, who has filled in brilliantly in previous games. Despite Alisson’s return, Slot is pleased to have several quality options at his disposal.
Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League, just one point behind leaders Manchester City, with four wins from their first five games. Slot, who takes over after Jurgen Klopp’s departure, has described the start to the season as “positive”, albeit marred by the home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
He commented: “Every home defeat is a disappointment, especially if it’s not against a team aiming for the top four. However, you can’t underestimate Nottingham Forest this season.”
Despite the tactical changes, Slot stressed that Liverpool’s style of play remains true to that of his predecessor. He credited the continued positive results by highlighting the favourable fixture list so far.
Ultimately, the return of Alisson Becker is great news for Liverpool, adding to their defensive solidity and providing added security to an already successful team. Fans can therefore look forward to seeing the Brazilian goalkeeper back in action in the next game against Wolves.
