As part of the efforts of the Enugu State Government to support farmers affected by the flood disaster, a commendable initiative has been launched through the distribution of power tillers in Okpanku and Ezinesi Oduma communities. The action, coordinated by the Fadama platform under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, is aimed at providing tangible support to local farmers affected by the recent floods.
The distribution ceremony which took place recently at the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization was attended by officials of the Ministry, representatives of the Farmers Community Associations (FCAs) and the Fadama team. Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Hon Patrick Ubru, emphasized the commitment of the state government to provide meaningful support to local farmers to aid their speedy recovery.
The power tillers distributed will go a long way in improving agricultural productivity, reducing physical strain associated with manual farming practices and mitigating the challenges faced by affected farmers. Each power tiller will benefit a group of 40 farmers, making a total of 400 beneficiaries spread across Okpanku and Ezinesi Oduma communities.
The intervention by the Enugu State Government is aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of flooding on local farmers, while supporting food security and economic growth in the state. Governor Mbah’s stated commitment to agriculture and farmers is a testament to the priority given to this key sector of the state’s economy.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the President General of Ezinesi Oduma and Chairman of Ngeneanwanta Ezinesi Oduma 1 Community Farmers Association, Hon Godfrey Kamah, expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government for this crucial intervention. The assistance, he noted, will greatly facilitate farming activities and help ease the burden on farmers in their post-flood recovery.
This initiative demonstrates the concrete commitment of the Enugu State Government to agricultural development and farmers’ welfare, marking a significant milestone in implementing measures aimed at strengthening the resilience of local communities and fostering sustainable economic growth.
