Significant progress and strengthened collaboration for local development in the Democratic Republic of Congo

As part of the Local Development Program of the 145 Territories (PDL-145 T) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the significant progress and collaboration between the Congolese authorities and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) were highlighted at a high-level meeting in New York.

The completion of the first phase of the work was at the heart of discussions between the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister in charge of Planning, Guylain Nyembo, the Minister of Finance, Doudou Fwamba Likunde Li-Botayi, and the Director of UNDP. This meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the progress made and set objectives for the rest of the program.

The Congolese government has expressed its desire to see the remaining works completed before the end of the current year, in order to move on to the implementation of the second part of the program, which will focus on agricultural access roads. The UNDP Director committed to supporting the Congolese authorities in this process to improve the living conditions of local populations.

It is important to note that the PDL-145 T is an ambitious initiative of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo aimed at combating poverty, inequalities and promoting development in the country’s 145 territories. The first components of the program have already enabled the construction and rehabilitation of essential infrastructure such as schools, health centers and administrative buildings, as well as the repair of agricultural roads.

The progress of the work entrusted to UNDP was praised, with a progress rate of 84.1%, which reflects the satisfaction of all parties involved. In a broader context, the Congolese authorities announced the holding of a round table on investments, where donors and private sector investors will be invited to contribute to the country’s development.

This high-level meeting marks a crucial step in the realization of the PDL-145 T and underlines the commitment of the Congolese authorities and the UNDP to work together to improve the living conditions of local populations and promote sustainable development in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
