The UN General Assembly World Summit in New York welcomed a host of world leaders, including Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, who came to share his country’s position during the General Debate. UNGA 79 opened its doors on 10 September, heralding the start of the speeches that will take place from 24 to 28 September.
This year, 194 speakers are scheduled to speak during the General Debate. A major event that focuses the world’s attention on the most pressing international issues. Among these speakers are 76 Heads of State, four Vice Presidents, two Crown Princes, 42 Heads of Government and nine Deputy Prime Ministers. In addition, there are 54 Ministers, one Vice Minister, four Delegation Chairs, the European Union and the Holy See.
The agenda of this General Assembly also includes a gender dimension, highlighting the participation of 19 women among the speakers. Five Heads of State, one Vice-President, four Heads of Government and nine Ministers will be the spokespersons of women’s voices and will thus underline the importance of inclusion and diversity in global discussions.
The Vice-President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has travelled to New York to represent his country at these crucial debates. He will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and take part in numerous high-level meetings. His arrival was marked by a warm welcome from senior diplomatic and ministerial figures of Nigeria, as well as representatives of the United Nations and other leading personalities.
