Fatshimetrie, September 23, 2024 – The preservation and enhancement of cultural heritage are at the heart of the concerns of cultural institutions in Kinshasa, including the Institute of National Museums of Congo (IMNC). During a recent meeting, Blaise Esinyalanga, Director of Collections and Technical Services at the IMNC, stressed the importance of collaborating with creators of modern art to protect museums and enrich national collections.
According to Esinyalanga, artists, whether painters, sculptors, designers, filmmakers, musicians or poets, play an essential role in the preservation of Congolese cultural heritage. By partnering with these creators, the IMNC seeks to create a dynamic network of modern artists, promote their productions and offer a space for the expression of their talents.
Created in 1970, the IMNC’s mission is to protect works of art, monuments and intangible cultural property of the Congo. Over the years, this institution has helped propel renowned artists such as Chéri Samba, Chéri Benga, Bodo, Shula, among others, onto the international art scene.
This collaboration between the IMNC and modern art creators is of capital importance for the preservation of Congolese cultural identity and the promotion of its rich artistic heritage. By promoting exchanges between artists and cultural institutions, this partnership helps to strengthen the influence of Congolese art on a national and international scale.
In conclusion, the protection and promotion of cultural heritage are essential issues to ensure the transmission of knowledge and traditions to future generations. Thanks to initiatives such as that of the IMNC in collaboration with modern artists, Congo continues to celebrate its cultural diversity and highlight the talent of its creators.
