In an unprecedented move aimed at addressing growing concerns over transportation costs for civil servants in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a reduction in the number of working days for civil servants. The announcement was made by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, highlighting the measures taken to mitigate the effects of the current economic crisis.
According to the official statement, civil servants in groups 01 to 10 will now work only three days a week, while those in groups 12 to 17 will be at their workplace for four days. The rearrangement is not only aimed at adjusting working hours to suit the needs, but also to provide financial relief to employees from the ever-increasing transportation costs.
However, workers in essential functions such as medical personnel, security guards, political officers and accounting officers are excluded from the new measures.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has also extended the payment of emergency assistance to civil servants for another two months, pending the implementation of a new minimum wage in the state. This initiative is aimed at supporting employees during this period of economic transition and ensuring their well-being.
It is worth noting that the allocation of working days for each category of civil servants will be managed by the Accounting Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government. This is aimed at providing much-needed flexibility while ensuring the continuity of essential public services.
Furthermore, Accounting Officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government, including Local Governments, have been instructed to comply with the new guidelines and ensure their smooth implementation.
This decision is a testament to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to the welfare of civil servants and his ability to proactively address the economic challenges facing Osun State. By providing additional financial support and reorganizing working hours, the governor is demonstrating his desire to preserve workers’ living conditions and offer them a more balanced working environment.
