Fight against Mpox in Goma, North Kivu: Vaccination, a hope to control the epidemic
The city of Goma, located in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is currently facing an epidemic of Mpox, a disease that is causing concern among the population. Faced with this worrying situation, the health authorities have announced the availability of a vaccine to be administered to the population in the coming days.
Dr. Dieudonné Mwamba, Director General of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), stressed the importance of this vaccination campaign to control and contain the spread of the epidemic. He called on the target population, particularly in the health zones of Goma, Karisimbi and Nyiragongo, to massively adhere to this initiative. Indeed, vaccination is an effective measure to fight against Mpox, in addition to other public health measures such as surveillance, prevention and control of infections.
Despite an increase in confirmed cases of Mpox, the mortality rate remains relatively low, which demonstrates the commitment of health professionals in caring for patients. The government, both at the national and provincial levels, is fully committed to the response to the epidemic and is doing everything possible to quickly contain its spread.
It is essential that the population of North Kivu mobilizes against Mpox by following the recommendations of the health authorities and adhering to awareness campaigns. Prevention remains the best weapon against this preventable disease, by strengthening hygiene measures and respecting health instructions.
To date, North Kivu has recorded a significant number of suspected and confirmed cases of Mpox, which underlines the urgency of a coordinated and effective response. Collaboration between the various health actors and the involvement of the population are essential to stem this epidemic and protect the health of all.
Ultimately, the availability of the vaccine in Goma represents hope in the fight against Mpox. It is together, by acting in a united and responsible manner, that we will be able to overcome this ordeal and preserve the health of the inhabitants of North Kivu.
