Fatshimetrie, September 23, 2024 – The importance of physical activity in maintaining a healthy heart was highlighted during the launch of Heart Week in Fatshimetrie, Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative aims to raise awareness among the population about the benefits of physical exercise in preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes.
During this event, Dr. Jean René Mbuyamba, cardiologist and president of the Congolese league against hypertension, stressed the importance of physical activity in protecting against diseases such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. He recalled that physical activity is not limited to sports, but encompasses any movement of the body that allows you to sweat and expend energy. Dancing, walking and even Nzango were cited as examples of physical activities that are beneficial for health.
Ms. Sarah Lilonga, President of the Association of Young Congolese for National Well-being, also highlighted the role of Nzango in improving health. This traditional physical activity is recognized for its benefits on physical fitness and mental well-being.
The population was encouraged to avoid a sedentary lifestyle, a risk factor for many diseases, including diabetes and obesity. Participating in regular physical activities can contribute not only to the prevention of these diseases, but also to the general improvement of health.
The Heart Week includes various activities, such as Nzango, a football match, symposiums, training on first aid in case of heart disease and walks. This initiative is the result of the collaboration between the Congolese League against Hypertension, the Congolese Society of Cardiology, the National Program for the Fight against Cardiovascular Diseases and the Cardiology Department of the Fatshimetrie University Clinics.
In conclusion, it is essential to promote physical activity as an effective way to prevent chronic diseases and maintain a healthy heart. By encouraging the population to adopt an active lifestyle, Heart Week at Fatshimetrie plays a crucial role in raising awareness of cardiovascular health issues and promoting well-being for all.
