Kinshasa expansion: a major project for the future of the Congolese capital

“Fatshimetrie recently looked at the progress of the Kinshasa city expansion project, a major prospect for the Congolese capital. Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki, during his recent visit to the site reserved for this initiative, expressed his desire to ensure that this space, located in Maluku, fully complies with expectations before the start of work.

He stressed that this expansion aims above all to move Kinshasa away from promiscuity, and that it represents a major opportunity for job creation, with no fewer than 10,000 positions to be filled in the first phase, which provides for the establishment of an industrial zone.

The establishment of this new city is in line with the governor’s electoral promises, aligned with the Head of State’s program in favor of employment and urban sanitation. With hiring starting in October, the initiative promises to be a major pillar of development. The Strategic Committee in charge of monitoring the project announced that the expansion of Kinshasa will cover more than 48,600 hectares.

During his visit, the governor was accompanied by various key stakeholders, such as the coordinator of the Strategic Committee, provincial ministers and land experts, thus demonstrating the coordination and commitment of the various stakeholders.

This ambition to expand the city of Kinshasa raises many questions, particularly in terms of environmental impact, urban planning, and citizen participation. It is essential that this colossal project integrates a sustainable approach, respectful of the environment and the needs of current and future residents.

In short, the expansion of Kinshasa towards new horizons represents a unique opportunity to rethink urban planning and the development of the Congolese capital. This is not only a logistical challenge, but also an opportunity to positively transform the lives of the people of Kinshasa and contribute to the emergence of a modern, sustainable and inclusive city.”
