The military operations conducted by Nigerian troops against terrorists recently resulted in the termination of eight notorious militants, while successfully rescuing 16 hostages in different parts of the country. The series of operations has been salutary in the fight against terrorism and insurgents, highlighting the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the security of its citizens.
One of the operations, successfully conducted on September 22, foiled an attempt by terrorists to attack villages in Borno in search of supplies. The three attackers were neutralized and a large quantity of weapons were recovered, including a submachine gun, an AK-47 rifle, grenades, AK-47 rifle magazines and submachine gun ammunition, in addition to money and phones.
In another encounter, following reliable intelligence, troops intercepted terrorists escorting hostages in Uvaha, Gwoza Region. Despite harsh weather conditions, the troops acted with determination, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist and the release of 16 hostages, including 10 males and 6 females. Grenades, foodstuffs and other items were also recovered from the scene.
In addition, coordinated military operations resulted in an effective ambush against a group of terrorists in Madza and Azare, Gujba Region, Yobe. Four terrorists were neutralized and weapons, including AK-47 rifles and empty magazines, were seized, demonstrating the effectiveness of the troops in combating terrorist threats and criminal activities.
In parallel, enhanced security measures were deployed in the federal capital, Abuja, leading to the interception of suspects during a vehicle check in Kugbo. A thorough search led to the discovery of 178 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag of flour, as well as a mobile phone and a sum of money.
These various actions illustrate the resolute commitment of the Nigerian Army to eradicate terrorism, insurgency and illicit activities, while underscoring the importance of collaboration between the security forces and the population in ensuring national security.
