A New Chapter: Peace and Harmony between the Communities of Tondabo and Kabarole

Fatshimetrie, September 23, 2024. The communities of the Tondabo and Kabarole groups, located in the Irumu territory in Ituri province, in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, have decided to begin a new chapter in their history by committing to living in harmony and peace. This decision marks an important turning point in the region, where tensions and conflicts have persisted for too long.

The military administrator of the Irumu territory, Colonel Jean Siro Nsimba, welcomed the collaboration and commitment of the stakeholders to reach an agreement. The signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two communities is the positive result of constructive discussions and mutual compromises.

In his speech, Colonel Nsimba stressed the importance of this protocol and announced the establishment of a roadmap to support its implementation. This roadmap aims to ensure compliance with the commitments made by both parties and to ensure rigorous monitoring both administratively and technically.

The recommendations made by the stakeholders, such as the reopening of extractive activities of mining cooperatives, compliance with social commitments made by the communities, and the ban on the illegal circulation of weapons in the area, demonstrate the common desire to preserve peace, social cohesion and security in the region.

This progress towards peaceful coexistence was made possible thanks to the mediation of the MONUSCO Civil Affairs Section, and comes following the recent clashes between armed groups in the region. The signing of this memorandum of understanding paves the way for a peaceful resolution of conflicts and the construction of a more peaceful future for the communities of Tondabo and Kabarole.

In conclusion, this commitment to peace and peaceful coexistence between the communities of Tondabo and Kabarole is an inspiring example of conflict resolution through dialogue and collaboration. It is a testament to the ability of local stakeholders to come together to build a better future based on mutual respect, tolerance and solidarity. The Irumu region can now look forward to a brighter future based on peace and prosperity for all its inhabitants.
